As a material, copper benefits from being infinitely 100% recyclable, as its properties remain the same no matter how many times it is recycled and reused. Copper is the primary material used in the products of ElvalHalcor’s copper and alloys extrusion division, for which sustainability is a strategic pillar of its continuous development. One of the primary objectives of ElvalHalcor is the usage of secondary material – or “scrap” - in its production process.
When compared to primary material, which is extracted from the earth, the usage of scrap has a significantly lower carbon footprint and is a primary driver to reduce carbon emissions by 55% by the year 2030, in compliance with the European Union’s target of zero emissions by 2050. With ongoing investments in technologies and optimized processes, Halcor has already managed to reach levels of 50% usage of scrap. Moreover, in close cooperation with the Metallurgy Faculty of the National Technical University of Athens, the company is looking to further enhance the efficient usage of lower-grade available scrap.
