  • High demand for Sofia Med’s products for non-automotive connectors

Sofia Med, a subsidiary of ElvalHalcor’s Copper Segment, continued to perform remarkably in the first quarter of 2024. The increased demand for the company’s copper and brass bare strips and tin-plated strips is related to their use in the production of non-automotive connectors. Unlike automotive connectors, non-automotive connectors come in a wide range of shapes, sizes, and configurations to accommodate diverse needs.

Power transmission, signal transmission, data communication, and control functions are some of the uses of non-automotive connectors across a range of industries. For example, aerospace, military, and industrial manufacturers prefer circular connectors because of their robustness and reliability. On the other hand, electronic devices, computers, and telecommunications equipment for connecting printed circuit boards (PCBs) and other components usually incorporate rectangular connectors.

RF (radio frequency) and microwave applications, such as in telecommunications, broadcasting, and medical imaging equipment, widely employ coaxial connectors. Computer and industrial applications for connecting peripherals, such as those related to monitors, printers, and external drives, often use D-sub connectors, also known as D-subminiature connectors. Finally, connecting and securing electrical wires or cables in industrial control panels, power distribution systems, and building wiring requires terminal blocks.

Sofia Med has and is currently investing in the development of this production branch and growing its pool of new customers. Its investments include the running of a tin plating line, surface quality and service performance improvements, traverse winding capabilities, and tailor-made supply programs for key customers. These investments are the initial stages of a period of improvement and growth for the company, which is determined to secure old and new client relationships, increase sales, and significantly contribute to the greater development of the industry.
