ElvalHalcor systematically invests in increasing aluminium and copper scrap in its products, with an emphasis on scrap derived from the end of the life cycle of the products. The company’s Aluminium Rolling Division, thanks to investments in technologies and smart management systems in the production of its aluminium alloys, has managed to triple the rate of scrap use in the last five years. At the same time, the Copper and Alloys Extrusion Division has a scrap usage rate of close to 50%.
At ElvalHalcor’s facilities, responsible production comes first, and best practices are applied in respect to material efficiency and waste management. Over 98% of waste is recycled or recovered. Furthermore, the company operates a state-of-the-art wastewater treatment facility and constantly puts resources into projects and innovative technologies regarding water management.
Energy efficiency is another major aspect of the company’s initiatives. ElvalHalcor’s Aluminium Rolling Division collaborated last year with SMS Group on the implementation of an integrated energy management system to reduce energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions. A further testament to the company’s commitment to addressing climate change and its footprint is the recent publication of its first Task Force on Climate-Related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) report on managing risks and opportunities related to climate change.
