  • Energy optimisation at ElvalHalcor: Advancing AIoT for sustainable energy consumption

Improve energy efficiency is a key part of the production strategy at ElvalHalcor. As part of the company’s commitment to advancing sustainability, Halcor is developing a cutting-edge AIoT system to predict energy consumption in its extrusion press. The Horizon Europe-funded Pandora project will offer energy forecasts on multiple timescales (hourly, daily, monthly, yearly) with increased accuracy, helping the company to optimise operations.

Crucial to this approach is the development of trustworthy AI, which reflects Halcor’s dedication to ethical business practices. Unlike conventional AI, trustworthy AI emphasises transparency, security, and ethical responsibility. It ensures that the company’s energy optimisation efforts protect stakeholder interests, maintain data integrity, and deliver more reliable energy forecasts.

The implementation of the Pandora project will lead to more accurate energy forecasts for Halcor, reduce operational costs and improve its regulatory compliance. Upon the completion of the project in a three-year horizon, the company expects a 10% improvement in the accuracy of its energy consumption predictions, improved data interpretability for informed decision-making, and notable GHG emissions reductions, which will lead to enhanced competitiveness. It is an initiative that is not only a technological advancement for Halcor, but a critical step toward a more sustainable and energy-efficient future for the company, with minimised resource usage and reduced energy wastage.
