Regarding the second award of the Company, for metal recycling, Mr. Nikos Marinakis, Director of Halcor’s Casting-Melting Plant receiving the relevant award, stated that: “For us at ElvalHalcor, sustainable operation has played an important role in regards to our successful activity and our sustained presence in the market. We place a special emphasis on recycling and implement an extensive program for the use of recycled copper and aluminium as a raw material. For Halcor, in 2020 the needs for raw materials were covered at a rate of 55% by secondary sources, i.e. copper scrap, sourced from the collection of products after the end of their life cycle. Strategically, we seek to increase the integration of copper and aluminium scrap as a raw material for the production of our products, thus contributing to the circular economy, in order to save natural resources and reduce our environmental footprint."
Finally, the aluminium rolling division of ElvalHalcor participated at the event, presenting the responsible production of aluminium according to the sustainability standard of the Aluminium Stewardship Initiative (ASI). Elval is the first Greek industry to be certified according to the ASI Performance Standard. Mr. Nikos Zarmpoutis, Elval’s Environmental Compliance Officer, during his presentation, stated that: “This certification according to the ASI Performance Standard (successfully completed in July 2020), confirms how our Company has performed in terms of the responsible production of aluminium and in particular the three pillars of ESG". In addition, Mr. Zarmpoutis referred to the fact that the next inspection of ElvalHalcor according to the ASI Chain of Custody Standard will take place very soon. This certification will enable the production and distribution of certified ASI material to ElvalHalcor customers.
